Who am I?
I started this blog to give me a place to connect with other parents (and anyone else who is interested) as I explore my thoughts on life. The views contained are my own, but informed by my life. I am a pretty regular suburban dad, in the SF Bay area. I work at a large company, I coach little league and soccer and I am on the board of my church. I am in my early 40s, so I am part of the unique generation that grew up before the wide spread use of the internet and cellular technologies.
Resilient Kids (Resilient Parents) – the human condition is one of change, however I believe that our time is one of unprecedented, rapid changes. As a parent I am focused on ensuring that my boys are resilient to the change that they are and will live through. I am also focused on ensuring that I have the a strong base for myself to ensure that I can be the best husband, father, employee coach etc. that I can be.
I will share my thoughts on a variety of topics, with the following areas of focus:
Parenting – parenting is an adventure in all aspects. I don’t have the answers, but I will share my thoughts.
Youth Sports- I did not play competitive sports as a kid. As a parent of two athletic boys, I see the value of youth sports. I am a student of orgs such as the Positive Coaching Alliance and other resources. I will share my best practices and thoughts.
Spirituality – I am previously an agnostic and I am now on the Board of my church. My spiritual journey is what I would call a humanist Christian. I know that science is real. I also know that there are ways to live your life better. I also believe that the universe (what I call god) is a beautiful and loving place.
Change – change is a constant in all aspects of our life. I know that the universe is a loving place, and that changes will (eventually) lead to the positive evolution of humans – but change can be hard. Two areas that I will focus on is the changes that are happening from climate change and the technology, including social media and computing.
Welcome – I hope this helps to spur some thoughts and helps to move the conversation forward.
I look forward to more!
